OFFICES FOR THE DUTCH EMBASSY

For the Dutch Embassy in Accra, Ghana, this building was the 2nd design, after the initial one, self-sufficient with energy, and full of sustainable techniques, was very innovative but too expensive to build.

An L-shape is draped on the sloping site. The roof evolves from the ground, follows the building outline but never touches it, and finally continues in the sky. This openness contrasts with the solid closed block, which houses the offices.

This contrast is taking place at various occasions, under the building and in the facade, where adjustable screens are mounted, to provide shade according to the needs.

Completed in 2006.

For AtelierZ (Zavrel) Architects.
