HOUSING DEVELOPMENT ‘DE PIJP’
An innercity housingproject, to fill in the gap that arose when older buildings had to be demolished. In this part of the inner-city of Amsterdam, prices of living are steeply rising, so new dwellings had to be made, to fill in the need.
The strong context in this highdensity part of town, caused no other choice than to follow the outlines of the former buildings. Also the facades had to integrate with their surroundings, as if this building had always been there.
Although it looks like a series of independent houses, the vertical emphasis conceils the way the entrances are organised; the lower 2 storeys belong to the same dwelling, the dwellings on the upper floors are all connected with galleries.
